Welcome Message from Tyson Roggie
Hi, my name is Tyson. I’d like to take a moment to tell you a little about myself, my family, and our business.
As I’m sure you’ve guessed, “TYRO” comes from the first two letters of my first name and first two letters of my last name. That was my wife’s idea, as are most good ideas around here. I count myself incredibly blessed to have her by my side on this adventure through life.
Speaking of my wife, I met Shae at SUNY Alfred in the fall of 2004 while completing my education in automotive tech. I was in my final year and she was in her first year of studying architecture and design, so if you see something that looks good around here it was probably her doing — and if you see something odd, it was probably mine. Shae has been integral to growing our business and deserves a lot more of the credit than she usually gets. I can still remember the night clearly when she told me, “You need to start your own business.”
Shae and I have five wonderful kids and one more on the way. They are growing too fast and are an absolute joy to be around. We can’t seem to find enough hours in the day to do all the things we want to do together. We enjoy camping, making maple syrup, and playing ball together. They are all hard workers and love coming with me to the shop and helping dad.
After I graduated from Alfred State with dual degrees in Heavy Equipment Truck & Diesel and Automotive Technologies, I began work at Dayan Street Auto with the best boss I’ve ever had, Ezra Siegrist. We learned a lot together those first years. We had a few head-scratching moments on some tough repairs along with a bunch of laughs about quirky customer (none of you all, of course) and a lot of good conversations about pretty much everything. I‘m thankful for my time there and all that I learned from him, and I want to say a special thanks to him for encouraging me in my dream of having my own business.
TYRO Automotive opened in July 2010, renting a small bay in the back of the Mill Creek Car Wash. I remember the first week I was going to take a bit of a sabbatical and get the shop organized and ready, and within the first day or two I had a friend call and ask if I could work on his nephew’s car. So much for down-time! What a blessing all of my friends, customers, and employees have been. We have a great team here and are very much looking forward to what the future holds for us.
Thanks for reading,
Tyson
